Rockfish held at 2.8 per angler out of Charleston with lingcod still slow, the ocean salmon season wound down with 416 Chinook for the year, and ocean crabbing closes October 16.
Coos Bay Fishing Report, Week of September 21, 2026: Rockfish at 3.3 a Rod, Lingcod Slow, Last Coho Day
The first Charleston bottomfish sample since spring came in at 3.3 rockfish per angler, blacks and yellowtail, with lingcod slow. Saturday’s one-day coho opening added 25 fish, and a big swell kept the fleet inshore.

Albacore stayed at seven per angler for a second week out of Charleston, the coho catch dropped to 300 as the quota closed in, and the ocean settled into a long-period September swell.

The coho opener and the tuna’s return landed in the same week. Charleston boats made 796 salmon trips and kept 732 coho, albacore came back at seven per angler, and ODFW warned the coho quota would not last the month.

The calmest ocean of the summer arrived with almost nothing offshore: 0.08 albacore per angler and 89 salmon trips out of Charleston. The non-selective coho season opened September 1 with a 25,700-fish quota.

The fin-clipped coho season ended August 18 with Charleston at 644 coho for the summer. Water at the buoy dropped to 53 degrees, tuna slowed to under one a rod, and the long-leader rockfish grounds became the smart play.
